The marketing mix: An advise for companies in the telephony industry



Hello readers, the marketing mix will be used to discuss the marketing activities that a telephony company should adopt.  Marketing mix helps to implement the marketing strategy. The mix includes product, price, promotion and place. 

• Product:
Telephony companies should provide services of high quality; they should also provide physical goods to customers by serving as an intermediary between mobile phone makers and final customers.  Products (goods and services) should be optional to customers. Resources should be used to provide maximum satisfaction to customers. Your telephony company should offer different form of services thereby offering customers flexibility. The composition of the product should provide customers with various mobile phone options, information services and discounts which will help differentiate the product. All of this contributes to the competitive advantage of any telephony company.

• Price:
The price charged by your telephony company should be at the market price However, if higher prices are charged it should be reflected in the quality of your service.

• Promotion:
“The role of promotion in a company is to communicate with individuals, groups or organisations, with the aim of directly or indirectly facilitating exchanges by informing and persuading one or more of the audiences to accept the company’s product”. (Dibb et al, 2006: 511). A telephony company can gain a good recognition because of the image of its existing brands if it has any. It should be able to arouse the attention, generate the interest, inspire the desire and initiate actions of customers through sponsoring of activities and media facilities such as halal tv stations and the internet.

• Place:
Effective and targeted distribution plays a key role in the success of any telephony company. It should have a large distribution outlet. A telephony company can adopts forward integration by providing its own outlets to sell its product, thereby providing a medium where customers can make enquiries and complaints. The volume of outlets should cut across most places in the country your telephony company operates in, this will help capture and satisfy more customers. Your company should also provide a medium where products could be purchased via the internet.

 Make sure your business is halal. Everything should be done for the sake of Allah. Part of doing something for the sake of Allah means hoping for a reward from Him in this life and the Hereafter. Everything happens according to the will of Allah (you have freewill, therefore, you are responsible for your actions).

 Halal means anything lawful Islamically.
